I\’ve checked out the hardware requirements for and R2 and I have yet to see any difference between them but there must be. I have a computer older motherboard for testing purposes. I installed Server on it with no problems and it runs great. I had first tried installing R2 on it and it wouldn\’t go so that\’s why I put on it.

I then decided to try to upgrade it to R2. That didn\’t work and borked the server royally. I have to reinstall from scratch. During the upgrade to R2, during what was I believe the final reboot, it would get past the POST then it would flash a few lines of I believe some error on the black screen and the immediately reboot.

The error flashed on and off so quickly I was unable to freeze it or get any kind of look to write it down despite viewing several times as it just kept going through a loop until I powered it off. Depending upon the manufacturer, it may require a BIOS upgrade or a driver upgrade. Not technically a difference in hardware requirements, but a difference in the support requirements from the manufacturer – not Microsoft. You could try recording the last portion after which you know that the system would go into the reboot loop in order to be able to get the error message that is displayed.

It wouldn\’t surprise me at all if that\’s it. Thanks for the suggestion! Even though this is for a test environment I really don\’t feel like trying to do that at this point but I thank you for your suggestions.
