1996
In 1996 Ms Maharaj served as a prosecutor with the National Prosecuting Authority for a contract period of six months whilst simultaneously attending Practical Legal Training at UKZN as a credit to her term of articles as a candidate attorney.
In July 1996 Ms Maharaj was admitted to articles with the Legal Aid Clinic – University of Durban-Westville.
1998
In January 1998 Ms Maharaj was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and practiced as an attorney for her own account.
2002
In 2002 Ms Maharaj obtained her Right of Appearance in the Durban and Coastal Local Division of the High Court.
2005
In 2005 she was appointed as a magistrate.
2010
In 2010 Ms Maharaj returned to private practice.
